Google (smart search)  [search]
Smart search. If you're looking for a particular Web site and can't seem to find it, try Google.
DMoz.org ODP (Netscape/Mozilla Open Directory Project)  [search]
Hand-picked Web pages. This most useful if you want to find a listing of Web sites with content in a particular category. Google uses the DMoz.org ODP, so you might want to try Google first.
AltaVista (web page content)  [search]
Indexed Web pages. If you want to find Web pages that contain particular words, AltaVista useful. Google seems to be better, but Google can only search for 10 words at a time.
Ask Jeeves (freeform questions)  [search]
Ask your question here. Ask Jeeves! is an intelligent directory of questions.
MetaCrawler (meta search)  [search]
Combined results. Wide ranging sources. If you're looking for multiple sites, but can't find them elsewhere, you can find them here.
Google News (news)  [search]
A great news service which automatically links to top stories based on how popular they are.
Google Groups (usenet newsgroups)  [search]
Search Usenet Newsgroups, similar to bulletin boards. Vast amounts of chaotic information.
Merriam-Webster (dictionary)  [search]
Merriam-Webster's Tenth Collegiate Dictionary
whatis.com (computer dictionary)  [search]
Encyclopedic dictionary of computer/technical terms.
Information Please (almanac)  [search]
The best online almanac. Includes an encyclopedia and dictionary.
Internet Movie Database (movie/TV titles)  [search]
The best resource for details on movies, a series, actors, etc.
The On-Line Books Page (online book titles)  [search]
The best place to find online books that you can read right on your computer screen.
Powell's Books (used book keywords)  [search]
Quality used books at the lowest price. No book details.
Amazon.com (new book keywords)  [search]
New books at great prices. The best place to get book details. Also CD's, DVD's, gifts, auctions, software.
